Chace. Professor Chace taught romance languages at Miami University in Ohio, and it is said that this excercise was written to show his students how integral intonation is to the meaning of language. At first glance, it reads like nonsense, but if you say it out loud it's quite hilarious. Read the text below, or if you have sound capability on your computer, hear it read aloud (via Real Audio) by visiting the Digital Library at the Exploratorium online here: http://www.exploratorium.edu/exhibits/exhibits.html Ladle Rat Rotten Hut -------------------- Wants pawn term dare worsted ladle gull hoe lift wetter murder inner ladle cordage honor itch offer lodge dock florist.
