TODAY'S ADDRESS(ES): http://features.yahoo.com/comics http://www.comiczone.com/ http://www.comiczone.com/editoons/ http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-srv/style/comics/wiley/ Howdy, y'all! A few alert TOURBUS riders will realize by the time stamp in today's header that today's post is being written in the wee small hours of the morning. The reason for this is that your fearless bus driver recently ate what is quite possibly the sweetest substance known to man, and I have been bouncing off the walls ever since. What, exactly, is this hyper-sweet substance? Well, it is hard to describe, but I can tell you how to replicate it in your own kitchen: 1. Pour yourself a heaping bowl of Apple Cinnamon Cheerios (a breakfast cereal that is available all over North America). 2. Eat the cereal, but try to leave the milk in the bowl. 3. Pour some more Apple Cinnamon Cheerios into the bowl (but don't add any more milk!). 4. Eat _that_ cereal, again trying to leave the milk in the bowl. 5. Finally, drink the leftover milk. Trust me ... much excitement will follow. :) +------------- FLYING NOODLE PASTA OF THE MONTH CLUB ---------------+ Only $19.95 plus shipping - 2 Gourmet PASTAS, 2 SAUCES and recipes. Back then I would wake up, eat of bunch of sugar-enriched cereal, and then spend the rest of the morning carefully studying the Sunday comic strips in my local newspaper. Anyway, since I am currently in a Cheerios-induced sugar coma, I figured it would be fun to take our little bus of Internet happiness to a couple of the free comic strip archives on the Web. Our first stop is at Yahoo's new daily comics page at http://features.yahoo.com/comics To be completely honest, Yahoo's comic selection is pretty weak, but I expect that to change in the future. Right now, Yahoo's comic page only displays one daily cartoon (Dilbert), but it does have pointers to other comic strips online, including Yahoo's own archives of - Luann, - Nancy, - Marmaduke, and - Reality check and United Media's archive of - Peanuts, - Robotman, - Over the Hedge, - For Better or For Worse, and - Dilbert (of course). Actually, if you want to check out United Media's entire collection of online comic strips, you can bypass Yahoo altogether and point your Web browser to http://www.comiczone.com/ United Media is the company that distributes most of the comic strips that appear in your local newspaper. United Media's two most popular comic strips are Peanuts and Dilbert, so their Comic Zone Web site heavily promotes both of these strips. But, if you take a look at the pull-down menu at the top of the Comic Zone Web page you'll see that United Media offers *29* different comic strips that you can view online. Best of all, most of these comic strips are updated daily ... and the entire United Media Comic Zone Web site is _FREE_! :) United Media also offers a pretty impressive collection of editorial cartoons at http://www.comiczone.com/editoons/ I'm not sure if these will appeal to our overseas riders, though. A lot of these editorial cartoons are anglo- and US-centric (a couple of the ones that I saw a few moments ago dealt with topics like the recent execution of Karla Faye Tucker in Texas and the Oprah Winfrey "beef defamation" lawsuit which is also happening in Texas). As exciting as United Media's Comic Zone is, though, it still doesn't offer my favorite comic strip of all time: Non Sequitur by Wiley. For a long time, Non Sequitur was only available in "real" newspapers (the ones that are actually printed on _paper_!) and on pay Web sites like the San Jose Mercury News' Mercury Center (http://www.sjmercury.com/). Well, I am happy to announce that Non Sequitur is now available on the Web ... for FREE! Just point your Web browser to http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-srv/style/comics/wiley/ That is a pretty long URL, but believe me when I say it is worth the extra effort involved with typing it in. The Non Sequitur Web page has links to: - Today's "Sequitoon" (updated daily) - Past "Sequtitoons" (a _HUGE_ archive) and - "Wiley Talk," a Web-based message board (that, shockingly, no one seems to have used recently). Well, that should keep you busy for a while! Have a safe and happy weekend! Oh, by the way, if you are a TOURBUS Plus! subscriber (see http://www.tourbus.com/plus.htm for more information about the Plus Bus), I am happy to announce that Bob's post this Saturday will include an interview with one of the ... um ... "tallest" persons on the Net. :) TODAY'S TOURBUS STOP: Comics!
