Last week I wrote that while British telephone users probably did not need to worry about the "nine zero pound" scam, I was sure that BT users were currently dealing with their own "dial q-seven-pi-cromwell- eleventeen-tomato" scam. What I meant to write, of course, is that I am sure that BT users are currently dealing with some sort of "dial q- seven-pi-*WINDSOR*-eleventeen-tomato" scam. I am happy to set this matter straight. :) Before we get today's tour underway, I have a quick public service announcement to share with you. If you are an educator involved with project-based learning, you really should try to attend the Autodesk Foundation's 6th Annual Conference on Project-Based Learning. The conference will be held on March 13th and 14th in the Bill Graham Civic Auditorium in San Francisco (and, best of all, it only costs US$175 to attend the full two-day conference, or $95 to attend the conference on Saturday only). This reason why I am mentioning this is that the Autodesk Foundation's Conference is the United States' premier PBL conference and is also a great professional development experience for practitioners and educational leaders engaged in reforming our nation's schools (something with which your fearless bus driver is deeply involved). For up-to-date information on this conference (including online registration and the full conference program) and on the PBL Network of Schools, visit the Autodesk Foundation's World Wide Web site at http://www.autodesk.com/foundation or contact Ms. Ross Kleinberg by phone (415-507-5664) or email (ross.kleinberg@autodesk.com). With that said, it is time to pay some bills. Make sure to visit today's TOURBUS sponsors and thank them for keeping our bus on the road for another week (and don't forget to look at today's TOURBUS logo). +----------- SimpleNet: UNLIMITED LOW-COST WEB HOSTING! ------------+ Say bye-bye to extra storage charges and traffic fees! Since that post was so successful, I decided to write another TOURBUS post about some of the other online comic strip archives I have recently found. Our first stop is at the Creator's Syndicate's new Web site at http://www.creators.com/ Much like United Media (http://www.comiczone.com/), Creator's Syndicate distributes several of the comic strips that appear in your local newspaper. In fact, Creator's Syndicate distributes fourteen comic strips including favorites such as B.C. [my second favorite comic strip!], The Wizard of Id, Momma and more. You can find a complete list of the Creator's Syndicate's online comic strips by clicking on the "comics" icon on the Syndicate's main homepage, or by pointing your Web browser to http://www.creators.com/comics/comics.asp Creator's Syndicate's Web site also includes an archive of editorial cartoons by Chip Bok (of the Akron Beacon Journal), Bob Gorrell (of the Richmond Times-Dispatch), and 1995 Pulitzer Prize winner Mike Luckovich (of the Atlanta Constitution). You can see these by clicking on the "editorial cartoons" icon or pointing your Web browser to http://www.creators.com/editorial/edit.asp This Web site also includes an archive of columns by Ann Landers, as well as opinion columns by Mark Shields, Susan Estrich, Robert Novak, and Tony Snow (although, as I write this, those opinion columns seem to be temporarily offline). Our next stop is at yet another press syndicate, this time the Universal Press Syndicate at http://www.uexpress.com/ Universal Press Syndicate's Web site has a _HUGE_ collection of online comic strips, including Calvin and Hobbes, Cathy, Doonesbury, Garfield, and Ziggy. A complete list of these comics can be found by clicking on the word "Comics" at the top of the Syndicate's main homepage or by pointing your Web browser to http://www.uexpress.com/ups/comics/index.html The Syndicate also offers a pretty impressive collection of opinion columns and editorial cartoons (at http://www.uexpress.com/ups/opinion/index.html). You might also want to check out Universal Press Syndicate's "Features" page (http://www.uexpress.com/ups/features/index.html), which includes such well-known columns as Dear Abby (http://www.uexpress.com/ups/abby/index.html) and News of the Weird (http://www.uexpress.com/newsoftheweird/index.html). Now if only we could convince Universal Press Syndicate to give _me_ my own Internet column, life would be oh so sweet. Oh well, we can always dream. That's it for this week. I still have a bunch of other online comic strips that were suggested by your fellow TOURBUS passengers, but I am going to visit those strips in a few weeks. I figured it would be best if we visited the big three press syndicates first. :) Have a safe and happy weekend! TODAY'S TOURBUS STOP: MORE COMICS!
