THE DAILY MEDIA GROK
--------------------

In a recent TOURBUS Plus post (see http://www.tourbus.com/plus.htm), I
mentioned something called the "Daily Media Grok." To be honest, I
like the Daily Media Grok so much I just had to share it with EVERYONE
on our little bus of Internet happiness.

The Daily Media Grok is a free Internet news service, offering
critiques of major Internet stories as they break. In other words,
the Daily Media Grok reviews how well cnet, ZDNN, The San Jose
Mercury, and other online news organizations report breaking Internet
stories. This may be an obscure reference (unless you watch CNN), but
the Daily Media Grok is somewhat like a "Brill's Content" for Net
news.

You can view today's issue of the Daily Media Grok online

      here.

This page also has a text box on the right-hand side of the page that
enables you to subscribe to the Daily Media Grok FREE (just type in
your email address in the box and click on the "Sign Up" button).

Sign up for this one, folks. It is worth it.

PIGS, MONEY, AND AIRPLANES ... OH, MY!
--------------------------------------

If you are a Monopoly fan (and I am talking about the board game, not
the software company in Redmond), you will be happy to hear that the
folks at Hasbro will be adding a new token to the best-selling game in
1999. Even better, you can help them choose the new token over the
Internet.

To participate in Monopoly's official token voting campaign, point
your Web browser to

      this site.

On the right-hand side of the page you will see the three token
candidates (hey ... no Soviet Union jokes from the back of the bus!):

     1. The Biplane
     2. The Sack of Money
     3. The Piggy Bank

To vote for your favorite new token, you will have to:

     1. Click on the image of that token. This will take you to a new
page where you will have to

     2. Click on the yellow, throbbing "Vote for Me Now" graphic.
[This has to be the silliest TOURBUS post I have *EVER*
        written!]

Monopoly's voting campaign ends on September 30, so you do not have
much more time!

--------------------------------------
MORE PROOF OF THE IMPENDING APOCALYPSE
--------------------------------------

You have to be a *BIG* fan of Drum Corps International
(http://www.dci.org) to understand this, but I have found further
proof that the world is about to end: the Bridgemen are returning!
You can find out more about the corps, including a rather humorous
(albeit misspelled) essay on the corps' history,

      here.

You can even buy a "Banana Power" shirt at the Bridgemen's souvie
stand! :)

For those of you who are totally confused, let me explain that the
Bayonne Bridgemen were one of the world's most revered, and
irreverent, drum and bugle corps. At the Drum Corps International
(DCI) 1980 world championships at Legion Field (in Birmingham, AL),
the corps played the University of Alabama fight song as their warm-
up. At the end of their performance, the Bridgemen cleared the field
revealing an in-progress University of Alabama Crimson Tide football
game, complete with cheerleaders. The corps ran off the field
following the ball. :)

By the way, the 1998 DCI world championships are currently underway in
Orlando. Unfortunately, DCI's Web Site (http://www.dci.org/) does not
offer any streaming audio or video from this year's performances, but
the site does have the latest scores.

That's it for this week!

SOUTHERN WORD OF THE DAY
------------------------

SPATIAL (adjective). Readily distinguishable.
Usage: "Two burgers, and hold that spatial sauce!"

(Special thanks to Marjorie A. Phillips for today's wurd)

You can find *ALL* of the old Southern Words of the day here.
