After being flamed to within an inch of my life for my misuse of
statistics in my last TOURBUS post, your not-so-fearless bus driver
has decided to forgo talking about Internet urban legends in today's
journey of our little bus of Internet happiness. I do promise,
however, that I will continue to look into the "death conspiracy"
story, and I will post an update if I uncover any verifiable, concrete
facts. :)

On a happier note, I am proud to announce that we are still accepting
submissions for the "Design a Button for TOURBUS" contest. So far, I
have received 35 different designs, and you can see them all

      here.

Two words of warning, though:

     1. With 35 buttons, this page is HUGE (>200K). Patience is a
        virtue. :)

     2. My Web server is located in Boca Raton, Florida, and Hurricane
Georges is on a direct path towards Florida. Power outages
are expected, so don't be too upset if you cannot reach this
        page on Friday.

In a few weeks we will hold an election and let you vote for your
favorite button. The winner will receive two old economics books, an
AOL 3.0 Gold CD addressed to "occupant," and anything else I can find
lying around my apartment. [One kind TOURBUS rider has offered to
give the winner an empty calling card, and a radio station here in
Tuscaloosa has offered to throw in a bumper sticker or two]. :)

Of course, glamorous prizes like two old economics books do not come
cheaply. Please help us support our growing prize chest by visiting
today's TOURBUS sponsors.

Hurricane Georges
-----------------

With the Atlantic hurricane season in full-force, our first stop is at
one of the best hurricane information sites on the Net: Yahoo News'
Full Coverage Hurricane page

here.

This page is a one-stop treasure trove of information on anything you
could ever want to know about both hurricanes in general and Hurricane
Georges in particular.

Yahoo's full coverage page is divided into nine sections. On the
left-hand side of the page is the latest news about Hurricane Georges
from AP, CNN, Reuters, the Miami Herald, the Palm Beach Post, and the
Tampa Tribune. Below that are links to related Web sites including
the National Hurricane Center and FEMA.

On the right-hand side of the page are links to:

     - the latest National Weather Service Advisories
     - radar, satellite, and infrared imagery
     - news sources that are covering Hurricane Georges
     - local information and hurricane preparation tips (this is a
MUST-read section for anyone living near the US' Atlantic or
       Gulf coasts)
     - weather forecasts
     - related categories at Yahoo
     - hurricane audio and video

Best of all, the folks at Yahoo News update this page several times a
day. :)

------------------------
Yahoo News Full Coverage
------------------------

While you are finding out about Hurricane Georges at
http://headlines.yahoo.com/Full_Coverage/US/Hurricanes/, you might
want to bounce up a couple of levels and visit Yahoo News' Full
Coverage page

      here.

The depth of Yahoo News' coverage of Hurricane Georges is not unique.
Every day, the folks at Yahoo News try to follow every major news
story in the world and create "Full Coverage" Web pages for those
stories. For example, if you want to find out about the air transport
crisis in the Philippines, Yahoo News' has a page that gives you links
to news articles on the crisis from the Philippine Daily Inquirer,
Philippine Headline News, and the South China Morning Post.

Yahoo News' Full Coverage homepage is pretty self-explanatory. Just
click on a particular story and you are taken to that story's full
coverage page. Oh, and don't overlook the "more ..." links on the
right-hand side of Yahoo News' Full Coverage page. These links show
you even more stories that Yahoo News' covers. :)

That's it for this week. Have a safe and happy weekend, and we'll
talk again next week.
