One of TOURBUS' many traditions is our annual prediction of what the
hot toy will be during the upcoming holiday season. After talking
with toy store managers in Chicago, New York, Los Angeles, and (of
course) Tuscaloosa, I am happy to predict that the hot toy this
holiday season will be ...
Blue's Clues Sing Along Blue by Fisher Price (approx. US$20)
Will this doll be the next "Tickle-Me-Elmo?" Probably not (so don't
rush out and stockpile this doll). However, if you have a preschooler
and are looking for a good.jpgt to get for them this holiday season,
you may want to beat the rush and buy a Blue's Clues doll within the
next couple of weeks.
I also predict that the most controversial toy this holiday season
will be Mattel's "Bounce Around Tigger" doll (Tigger is a character
from A.A. Milne's Winnie-The-Pooh Books). The Bounce Around Tigger
doll really does bounce around. Unfortunately, the engineers at
Mattel forgot to install a mercury-type switch, so the doll still
works even when it is not vertical. This is unfortunate, because when
the Bounce Around Tigger is placed in a horizontal position it doesn't
so much bounce as it ... well ... "mates."
With that said, it is time to pay some bills. Today we have our first

Many people are turning to the Web for information about medical
topics only to be overwhelmed with the both the volume and oftentimes
the inaccuracy of the information they find. Heck, a search for the
words "breast cancer" at AltaVista yields 119,236 hits!
Fortunately, there are many good medical information sites on the Web.
One of the best is Mediconsult, which can be found on the Web
here .
Mediconsult's Web site is a vast repository of information on over
seventy different medical topics and conditions ranging from AIDS/HIV
to breast cancer to spinal cord injury. Pick a topic or condition
from the pull-down list on the left-hand side of Mediconsult's
homepage and you are taken to a page dedicated to that particular
topic or condition. This page gives you links to:
- Educational Material
- Journal Articles
- News
- Clinical Trials
- Drug Information
- Support Groups
- Outside sources
all relating to that particular topic or condition. Looking for the
latest journal articles about breast cancer or information about
clinical trials evaluating investigational therapies for epilepsy?
Mediconsult's Web site has it!
My only complaint about Mediconsult is that all of its links to its
educational material, journal articles, and so on, are located on the
left-hand side of each medical topic's or condition's page. These
links are a gold mine, but they could be easily overlooked. So,
remember folks, when you visit a topic's or condition's page, look
LEFT! :)

With the recent wave of urban legends flooding the Net, I highly
recommend that you visit (and even bookmark) David Emery's archive of
current Net hoaxes
here .
This page gives you the inside information on several recent Net
legends, including the Bill Clinton 'the President lied, so he must
resign' quote, the false story about cocaine smuggling in children's
corpses, the ever-present 9-0-# telephone hoax, and dozens more!
David's archive is a must-read, folks (and I promise that I won't
mention that David looks like a magician). :)
