NEWSWEEK.COM
------------
For as long as I can remember, the only place where you could read
Newsweek online was on AOL. Well, brace yourself, folks -- Newsweek
magazine FINALLY has its own Web site. In fact, here is a link to
their new site:
Newsweek - http://newsweek.com/
Newsweek's site has four main sections:
1. Today's Newsweek
http://newsweek.com/nw-srv/tnw/today/front.htm
This section offers daily updates from Newsweek journalists.
From what I can gather, Today's Newsweek offers three new
stories a day: one written by the "Cyberscope" (technology)
columnists, one written by the "Periscope" (upcoming or
developing news) columnists, and one written by the
"Newsmakers" (entertainment) columnists.
2. Top News
http://newsweek.com/nw-srv/topnews/front.htm
This section offers the latest news stories from Newsweek's
parent organization, the Washington Post. The Top News
section displays the latest news from the nation (US),
politics (US), and the world, and you can find links to
business, technology, entertainment, and sports on the left-
hand side of the Top News page.
3. Print Edition
US: http://newsweek.com/nw-srv/printed/us/front.htm
INT: http://newsweek.com/nw-srv/printed/int/front.htm
This section offers the entire print version of both the
United States and the International editions of Newsweek
magazine. Of all the sections of Newsweek's site, this one is
by far the most in-depth and valuable.
4. Archive
http://newsweek.com/nw-srv/common/archive/archive.htm
This section provides a free, online archive of the three most
recent Newsweek magazine issues.
Newsweek's site isn't perfect, though. For example, while Newsweek
has a wonderful audio service called "Newsweek On Air," you have to
have Quicktime to be able to hear their broadcasts. Why they chose
Quicktime over Real Audio (the current Internet standard) or
Microsoft's NetShow is beyond me.
Still, it is nice to see Newsweek hop on the Web, and I am happy to
say that my bookmarks now include a link to Newsweek's Print Edition
page. :)

UPDATE: Clinton Body Count
--------------------------
As promised, I have more information on the Clinton Body Count story
we mentioned in our 17 September 1998 post. Barbara Mikkelson at the
Urban Legend Reference Pages has spent the past couple of weeks
investigating the story and has found a few discrepancies. Here is
the link to her report:
Update - http://snopes.simplenet.com/spoons/faxlore/clinton.htm
This URL actually redirects you to a file stored on one of SimpleNet's
servers. Unfortunately, SimpleNet can be flaky from time to time, so
don't be too shocked if you have trouble loading this page the first
time.
-------------------------------------------
UPDATE: National Geographic Survey2000 site
-------------------------------------------
It looks like Dr. Bob made a little typo in his last post. The
correct address for the National Geographic Survey2000 site ends with
.COM instead of .ORG. Here's the correct link:
Survey2000 - http://survey2000.nationalgeographic.COM
We apologize for the mistake. :)

UPDATE: The Fun People List Archives
------------------------------------
Back in our 11 December 1996 post I said that Peter Langston's Fun
People list is " is hands-down my favorite list on the Net!" Two
years later, that statement is still true.
Fun People is an edited humor list. The only emails that are
distributed to the Fun_People list are the e-mail letters that Peter
Langston thinks are funny and/or interesting ... and Peter is an
EXCELLENT editor.
Well, Peter has moved the Fun People homepage and archives to a new
site:
Fun People - http://www.langston.com/psl-bin/Fun_People.cgi
This new site contains information on how to subscribe to Fun People
(basically, you have to beg Peter to let you join his list), and it
also has a searchable archive of every Fun People post since 1991!
Believe me, this archive is the mother lode of Internet comedy!
