Win 98 Y2K Issues
-----------------

As you have probably heard by now, Microsoft has discovered some year
2000 "issues" in their Windows 98 operating system. Microsoft has
created a free "Windows 98 Year 2000 Update" to correct these issues.
If you are a Windows 98 user and want to either download the Y2K
update over the Internet or order the update on a free CD-ROM from
Microsoft, launch Windows Update in your Windows 98 machine by going
to Start --> Settings --> Windows Update (or at least that is where
Windows Update is located on *my* computer).

Most of the press releases I have seen about the Windows 98 Y2K
issues say that you can also order a free CD-ROM of the update on the
Windows Update Web site at

http://windowsupdate.microsoft.com/ .

What the press releases don't tell you is that this Web page (at least
on my computer) just tells you to "[p]lease start the Windows Update
service from the link on your Start menu." Of course, you can bypass
all of this mess and just order a copy of the free CD-ROM directly
from Microsoft by calling 1-800-363-2896.

To read more about the Win98 Y2K problem, visit Microsoft's highlights
page at

NORAD Tracks Santa
------------------

Our next stop is at a site you will definitely want to visit on
December 24th: the "Official 44th Annual NORAD Tracks Santa" site at

http://www.noradsanta.org/

And, yes, I do recognize the anachronism. This is *NOT*, contrary to
the page's title, the 44th year that NORAD -- the North American
Aerospace Defense Command -- has had a Santa-tracking Web site; this
is the 44th year that Santa has been tracked by the United States
military. :P

Using the latest satellite data and digitized imagery (and a little
bit of Javascript), the Norad Tracks Santa site will show you Santa's
Christmas Eve (December 24th) flight around the world. Prior to the
24th, this site will provide you with information about NORAD, how
NORAD tracks Santa, and a few extra surprises. I highly recommed that
you take a look at the "Vehicle Information" page which provides the
technical data for both Santa's sleigh and the CF-18 Hornet (the plane
that will escort Santa through Canadian airspace).

By the way, because Santa's journey will take him to many different
countries, the NORAD Tracks Santa site is available in English,
Francais, Italiano, Japanese, and Espanol. The first page of the
NORAD Tracks Santa site is a clickable map of the world. Click on the
flag that corresponds to the language that you speak. [If you click
on the Canadian, American, British, Australian, or New Zealand flag,
you are taken to a page written in English; if you click on the French
Flag, you are taken to a page written in Francais; and so on.]

-----------------------
Is There A Santa Claus?
-----------------------

Of course, the NORAD Tracks Santa site begs the question: "is there a
Santa Claus?" Spy Magazine investigated that question back in 1990,
and you can find their conclusions at

http://netsquirrel.com/santa/

Hands down, this is one of the funniest things I have *EVER* read. :)
