Recently I asked you to participate in a survey to let me know what topics you'd like to see in my next ebook. To put it mildly, I was stunned by the volume of your replies. Over 3700 of you took the survey, and in addition to rating your interest in the five topics I selected, over 2400 free-form comments were entered.

It's going to take me a while to fully digest all of that input, but I promised to give you the results of the survey, so here's the summary from 30,000 feet:

But I also asked for your suggestions about what else to cover in this ebook, and 274 of you had opinions on that! One of the most common requests was "Don't forget about Windows XP!" You reminded me that 60% of Windows users are running XP, an d want to stick with it as long as possible. I still use Windows XP on my primary desktop, so rest assured I'll be covering XP issues in detail.

Interestingly, there were just as many of you who urged me "Forget about XP, focus on Windows 7!" And that's okay... I already planned to cover Windows 7 topics, including which version to buy, an overview of new features, upgrading from Vista a nd XP, customizing the Win7 desktop, running legacy programs, 32-bit versus 64-bit, and more about Windows 7.

Other recurring themes in your topic suggestions were:

Windows Maintenenance: staying updated, dealing with the registry, cleaning up old/unwanted files
What tasks are running on my PC, and which are really necessary?
Troubleshooting, keyboard shortcuts, partitions and reformatting
How to keep older computers working efficiently?

My personal favorite comment was: "I'm a former TV weatherman and amateur magician. Tell me about tweaks!" I'm very happy with the huge response to the survey, and for your input on which direction to go with the next ebook. So now it's off to the ca ve to begin writing!
