MediaBuilder.com

I would like to give a special tip of the hat to fellow TOURBUS rider
Bill Morris for introducing me to today's first stop: MediaBuilder.com
at

http://www.mediabuilder.com/ .

MediaBuilder.com offers free fonts and Web graphics. I know there are
SQUILLIONS of free font and free graphic sites out there, but
MediaBuilder.com is worth visiting because it offers:

      - 963 free fonts in 27 different categories (they're Windows
TrueType fonts, though -- if you are a Mac user, take a look at
        http://www.zdnet.com/mac/software/categories/publish.html for a
        bunch of free Mac fonts.)

      - A free "Font Mapper" that displays an online equivalent of the
Windows Character Map or Macintosh Key Caps tool for twenty of
the most popular PC and Mac fonts. The font mapper even gives
you instructions on how to insert a special font character
(like an "n" with a squiggly line over it) in your documents.

      - A free "3D Text Maker" that takes the text you key in and
transforms it into a rotating, 3D image. The 3D Text Maker
even lets you play around with the fonts, colors, and stuff
like that. A similar "Animated Banner Maker" transforms your
text into custom, animated Web banners.

      - A free "Button Maker" that turns any GIF on the Net into a
        beveled button.

      - A free collection of over 10,000 images, including animated
GIFs, icons, lines, borders, and backgrounds.

Even if you aren't into Web page design, MediaBuilder.com's extensive
font library is well worth the trip. If you *are* into Web page
design, especially if you are looking for an easy way to create
graphics for your Web site without having to purchase and learn Adobe
Photoshop or Macromedia Fireworks, MediaBuilder.com is a God-send. :)

ZDNet AnchorDesk
----------------

Our second stop comes to us from yet another TOURBUS rider: Jesse
Berst (yes, *THAT* Jesse Berst). Mr. Berst writes:

I'm a reader and fan. As you write about newsletters, you may
want to tell your readers about one that is (as far as we know) the
largest email alert in the world (and maybe even the largest daily
      publication of any kind).

ZDNet AnchorDesk has 2.5 million daily subscribers around the
world. It is a high-tech news alert with a companion Web site.
You can sample it by sending a message to on@anchordesk.com
(nothing required in subject or body). Unsubscribing is
off@anchordesk.com. And, of course, you can subscribe on the Web
      site too, http://www.anchordesk.com

I hope that everyone caught the most important part of that message:
JESSE BERST IS A FAN OF TOURBUS! :)

Seriously, though, ZDNet AnchorDesk is a wonderful resource, and I am
not just saying that because JESSE BERST IS A FAN OF TOURBUS! I am
saying that because AnchorDesk is TWENTY-FIVE times larger than
TOURBUS! Net users are fickle, and there is no way that 2.5 million
people would subscribe to AnchorDesk if it wasn't great.

Each weekday, Mr. Berst -- by the way, did I mention that he is a fan?
-- and his team sends out a brief, two-page summary of the latest news
and events from the technology world. For example, here is an excerpt
from the most recent AnchorDesk:

      __________Best of Mac____________________
        IE 5 FOR MAC DELAYED

      http://cgi.zdnet.com/slink?/adeska/adt0909bm/3837:5007256

Mac users will wait even longer for the next version
of Internet Explorer. Mac ace Liz Enbysk has more
on Microsoft's latest delay. She also updates the
G3-G4 debate -- and suggests three cool Mac downloads.

Short, isn't it? That's what makes AnchorDesk so wonderful Each
weekday you'll receive an email with half a dozen similar summaries and
links to where you can find the full details on any of the summaries
that interest you. Best of all, AnchorDesk is a wonderful way to keep
up to date with all the stuff that is happening at AnchorDesk's parent
organization, Ziff Davis. [While I love the in-depth information
available on all of ZD's sites, I still stand by my original
observation: Ziff Davis makes my head hurt.] :P

That's it for this week! Have a safe and happy weekend ... oh, and
did you hear that ... nevermind. :)
