           TODAY'S TOURBUS TOPIC: Rider's Revenge #9

One of my favorite things about Tourbus is hearing from readers and
then passing along selected sites they've mentioned. Today's Rider's
Revenge contains some really fun and interesting destinations that
you'll be sure to enjoy.

You can find other "Revenge" issues in the Tourbus archives at
http://www.tourbus.com/ - but first, a few words from the great
sponsors who keep the Bus rolling...

 INTERNET LICENSE PLATE GALLERY
--------------------------------

Andy King of Ann Arbor, Michigan wrote:

We've added seven new plates to the Internet License Plate Gallery,
including URL GURL, REDHAT, NET DUDE, E-VA.COM (one of the few plates
we have that's also a domain name), and HIT RTN from Bill Elliot, a
training consultant in Arizona. If you've got a Net-related plate
send it in!

 JTRACK 3D

Skip Huffman of Atlanta, Georgia wrote:

An actual use for Java!! Someone associated with NASA has created an
applet that shows current satellite positions and orbits. Too much
fun - take a look!

Editor's note: If nothing else, this shows the sheer volume of metal
floating around our planet.

 TRAVELITE FAQ
---------------

Lani Teshima of Emeryville, California wrote:

I would like to recommend the web site I maintain, called the Travelite
FAQ. It started as a FAQ I used to post at rec.travel.air, and soon
grew too large for the standard one-post format. It's continued to
grow, and I now have its own domain name for it.

I believe anyone considering air travel for their trips could learn
from the tips I have. Sure, there are a ton of sites that help you
make your reservations but how do you learn how to pack for a two-week
trip, AND manage to fit it all in one carry-on bag? No magic tricks
here - it can be done!

 MARS MILLENNIUM PROJECT
-------------------------

My pals at Internet Wire wrote:

Under a White House initiative, NASA scientists are using the Internet
to teach all of us about Mars. On September 28, three NASA experts
will be live on the Web, providing an active, insightful look into the
trials and tribulations of potential life on Mars.

The Mars Millennium project is an unprecedented educational opportunity
that will help children understand the potential for future human life
on Mars.

 THE FLICK FILOSOPHER
----------------------

MaryAnn Johanson (aka the "Flick Filosopher") of New York City wrote:

The Flick Filosopher has been discussing current and classic films
and videos online since September 1997. Each week, The Flick
Filosopher offers a review of a new film, paired thematically with a
current video.

There are tons of movie review sites on the Web, so I avoid the
thumbs-up/thumbs-down type of criticism, which is what everybody is
doing. Instead, at the site I try to re-create the kind of
conversation intelligent film fans have while the credits roll or the
video rewinds.

 INTERNET DETECTIVE
--------------------

Sherr Stern from somewhere in AOL Land wrote:

Hello - this site was mentioned in USA Today in their "Tech Extra"
column. I've started to use it, and it seems quite good, particularly
for those who look for context and meaning amidst rampant internet data
smog. Hope you find this of interest for other tourbus riders! The
Internet Detective can be found at:

 QUOTE-O-MATIC
---------------

Another nifty new feature on the Tourbus website! The home page and
some of the other pages now sport a random quote from a Tourbus rider.
(My favorite is the one from the yak herder in Nepal.) Each time you
refresh the page, you'll get a new quote. Even better, you could see
YOUR quote appear there, if you send me something sufficiently sappy
or flattering. Here's a sample of the stuff we're most likely to use:

"Three weeks ago I was broke and homeless, and bad-smelling. But
after reading just a few issues of Tourbus, I am now the richest
man in Texas. Some folks say I smell better too. Please supply
your mailing address so I can send you gobs of money."

Got the general idea? Great - now pop on over to the TOURBUS web site
and have at it!

Oh, and if you have sites you'd like to recommend for the next Rider's
Revenge, send 'em in! That's all for now - see you next time. --Bob
