WOMEN TAKE THE LEAD
=====================
According to a study released earlier this month by Media Metrix and
Jupiter Communications, women now outnumber men in the online world,
at least in the U.S. population. The study shows that 50.4% percent
of U.S. Internet users are women, bringing cyberspace into closer
balance with census figures which show that women make up 51% of the
total population.
Other notable facts & figures from the report:
- The number of teen-age girls has doubled in the past year to
over 4 million, makeing it the fastest-growing segment.
- Girls 12-17 most often frequent sites related to fashion
magazines, shopping, and music.
- Girls 2-11 are most likely to visit sites related to television
programs, licensed merchandise, music, learning.
- The number of online females aged 18-24 DECREASED slightly over
the past year.
- Both European and American women tend to use the Web to find
information to make their lives easier, rather than just surfing.
- The fastest growing online population of European females is in
Germany, up from 27.3% to 31.7% in the past six months.
