Jones helped bring to life many characters during the Golden Age of animation including some of Warner Bros.' most famous Looney Tunes characters - Bugs Bunny, Daffy Duck, Elmer Fudd and Porky Pig. The list of characters that he created goes on -- Road Runner, Wile E. Coyote, Marvin Martian, Pepe Le Pew, and many others. http://www.chuckjones.com Mr. Jones is going to be turning 89 years old this year. In a recent PBS documentary, I saw him, to my astonishment, say (paraphrased) "I've spent my life trying to be a winner like Bugs Bunny, but I feel like I've always been a loser like Daffy Duck". I think that spells out the issue pretty clearly - this man see himself nearing the end of his mortal life and actually believes, incredibly, that he was somehow a failure. Please consider featuring this worthy project in order to help to appropriately honor such a very worthy, decent, caring man. ------------------ VIRTUAL GRAFITTI ------------------ Christophe Castel, from Val-de-Marne France, wrote: I'd like to present HTTPaint the online painting program. No plug-in required. The website www.zewall.com is a showcase for this tool : scroll the streets of a city, select a wall and paint on it. http://www.zewall.com The best pictures are stored in a gallery. Discover the great pictures made by artists using HTTPaint. Vote for your favorite picture, use the panoramic mode to quickly view all the walls. Modem users can paint offline and connect again to save their picture. See you soon on Zewall! ------------------ THE MIGHTY ORGAN ------------------ Val Stevenson, from London England, spake thusly: The Mighty Organ has attracted some of the UK's best-known travel and feature writers by providing them with an opportunity to publish pieces they would not normally get commissioned to write. Recent issues have featured a photo essay on paragliding Iranian women; articles on body-building in Cambodia, the art of tedium, garden gnome politics, geese in guerrilla warfare, the tradition of serious jokes, and an insider's view of the making of a cult film; short stories; spoof advertisements; and and England's oldest and oddest firework show, the lethal Lewes Bonfire Society. http://www.themightyorgan.com Neither the contributors nor the editors - a small group of UK-based writers - get a cent for contributing to a site described by Newsbytes.com as having "a blissfully cynical view of modern life." We all enjoy and value good writing, and we think that's what The Mighty Organ provides. ----------------- SHOW ME THE WAY ----------------- Miles Abernathy, from Austin Texas, opined: I've been reading Tourbus for several years, and it just occurred to me that my own web site might be of interest to some of your readers. It is the web's largest collection of waypoints from all around the world, free for downloading. http://swopnet.com/waypoints What is a waypoint? It is the latitude and longitude of a location of interest, such as the Eiffel Tower or the Grand Canyon visitor's center or the north goalpost of Bryant-Denny Stadium. Folks with handheld GPS units like to load waypoints in them before travelling, to help find those locations of interest. Last year, when the US government turned off the intentional degradation of the GPS satellite signals, all GPS receivers suddenly experienced an instant 10x boost in their accuracy. In most cases, a cheap handheld GPS nowadays will show your exact location to within 5 to 7 meters...anywhere on earth. ------------ OH, BOTHER ------------ Owen Barritt, from the University of Cambridge, uttered the following: I've been on the Tourbus mailing list for a couple of years now and enjoy the regular emails. Currently I maintain a site that I thought your readers might be interested in. The Pembroke College Winnie The Pooh Society based at Cambridge University, UK is a society dedicated to the preservation of the works of A.A. Milne and the important things in life - TEA and CAKE! Our site includes most of the society archives: minutes, photos, correspondence (including the famous letter to Sainbury's about crumpets). http://www-stu.pem.cam.ac.uk/pooh ------------------------------------------ DID YOU GET YOUR $10 AMAZON CERTIFICATE? ------------------------------------------ EBATES is a shopping portal that offers you rebates up to 25% when you shop at popular online stores such as JCPenney, L.L. Bean, CDNOW, Disney Store, Sharper Image, Yves Rocher or many others. After you sign up with EBATES (it's free to join) and make a purchase at one of the participating stores, you get three nice rewards: A $5 signup bonus from EBATES, a $10 Amazon.com Gift Certificate, and the rebate on your purchase. http://www.tourbus.com/ebates.htm That's all for now, I'll see you next time! --Bob Rankin =====================[ Tourbus Rider Information =================== The Internet Tourbus - U.S. Library of Congress ISSN #1094-2238 Copyright 1995-2001, Rankin & Crispen - All rights reserved Help the hungry, poor and sick - for free! http://FreeDonation.com Subscribe, Signoff, Archives, Free Stuff and More at the Tourbus Website - http://www.TOURBUS.com ====================================================================
