CACHE-ING IN ON A NIFTY GOOGLE FEATURE
----------------------------------------
Marya Gutek, of the Forest Township Library in Otisville, Michigan,
properly greased the skids with unabashed flattery, saying:
First off, let me tell you how much I enjoy your Tourbus messages.
I used to subscribe to several similar listservs but yours was so
clearly the best that I've canceled the others. I've gotten some
helpful info over the years and I should have thanked you sooner.
You've written about Google a couple of times without mentioning a
feature that is one of the neatest things about the search engine:
the cache. I'm sure you've had the experience of clicking on a
search hit only to get "URL not found" or some similar message.
With Google, you can click their "cached" link at the end of the
URL and see the page as it existed at the time Google indexed it.
For example, if I do a Google search on "troubleshooting trailer
wiring" (without the quotes) the first hit I get is for a site with
the title "How do I trouble shoot trailer wiring problems." The
page won't come up. BUT, click on the cached link and voila,
there's the page. And it was really helpful in figuring out why
the lights were out on my horse trailer. ;-)

FORGET THE X-FILES, WE GOT THE WHYFILES
-----------------------------------------
Bala Murugan from India composed this fine prose:
Dear Sir, I'm a regular reader of Tourbus and it is very nice &
interesting, of course some time boring. Also I had seen our guild
leaders contributing on their part for the best outcome of the
newsletter. So to keep our Bus rolling I also will be passing on
the information to u which I browse.
WHYFILES is about science facts & the reasons behind the screen.
As the name implies it tells about various mysteries so far
unraveled. This site has also pictures & movie clippings to taste
the matter. Hope this will be so useful for u and all of us.

Editor's Note: Anyone who calls me "Sir" gets one free insult.

TOMFOLIO
----------
Chris Tozer from Illinois arranged his electrons thusly:
Tomfolio is a book search database owned by a cooperative of
independent book dealers. Normally you'd think that one book
search site is much like another, but TomFolio has a feature that
no other used book site has -- you can browse the listings by
category. It's very much like browsing the physical shelves in a
book store. There are hundreds (maybe thousands) of subcategories.

GET YOURSELF UNWIREd
----------------------
Pamela Franklin, on behalf of the United Nations wrote:
I'd like to draw your attention to the UN Wire website. The United
Nations Foundation redesigned the site and it offers an improved
look, along with greatly enhanced functionality. It continues to
feature the most current information on UN and international
events. I think you will find it to be a useful site.

I FIND MYSELF WITHOUT A CLEVER PUN
------------------------------------
Bob Baker, deep in cyberspace, uttered these words:
For more helpful utilities for wordsmiths, check out Atomica, a
utility I absolutely love. Atomica will give you the definition,
thesaurus entries, translations into other languages, and even an
audible pronunciation for many words. Just hold down your ALT key
and click on the word in question. It's pretty impressive!

THE 12 SPAMS OF CHRISTMAS
---------------------------
David W. Solomons from England spoke this into the microphone:
Hi Bob. Further to the Tourbus article on Spam you might like
to tell your readers of an amusing little musical collaboration
in mock punk style called the 12 Spams of Christmas. (One of
the jokes is that we are really both classical musicians, but
Lorin's punk rock character sounds real enough to me!) It can
be heard here:

That's all for now, I'll see you next time! --Bob Rankin
